Roman Influences Discussion

- After watching the Did You Know video in the ARTmap, you could argue Julius Caesar influences contemporary society to this day. What are lasting ancient Roman influences, if any, that we see in contemporary society? Think about the things you see or do in a typical day or greater cultural trends in today’s society that may also be Roman inspired. Please explain your answer.

classmate’s response ( In contemporary society, Roman influences are still largely apparent. The first main influence of ancient Roman society that comes to mind is architecture. Although Romans drew influence from Greek architecture with the inclusion of stately columns, the Romans added flair to the architecture with more ornate designs. Today, even walking around campus, the influence of Roman architecture is noticeable. One example of this is Carmichael Hall. Additionally, the American government system was modeled with heavy ancient Roman influence. This democratic governmental structure even trickles down to influence UA’s SGA.)
