results of mental scanning

Do the typical results of mental scanning experiments support the idea that mental images are like pictures (the depiction or Analogy Theory of imagery) or that images are not exactly like pictures (the descriptive or Propositional Theory of Imagery)?  Explain why and what other findings support the same theory?
