Goal setting in any career is a fundamental tool in terms of organization for all areas of an individual’s life. Goal setting has worked out well for me and I technically consider it as a vehicle that sets long-term vision and short-term motivation for those who effectively employ it. Subsequently, the immediate and long-term career and life goals in my career field of mental health counseling that I have set for myself through the years have helped me improve my self-confidence as well as achieve more.
Some of my immediate career goals include: provide short-term and long term solution that aid people going through rough patches and hard terms in their life. Another immediate goal include working with a psychiatric hospital and other mental health clinics in order to provide immediate care for clients suffering from severe mental health and related illnesses. I feel that this is the right time for me to graduate from school because I am now equipped with a lot to offer to the society due to my extensive professional experience.
On the other hand, my long-term career goals are embedded on identifying and developing core skills that will add more value to my profession as a mental health counselor. One of the long-term goals I have set for myself is to enroll for a doctoral degree in the field of psychiatrist. I feel strongly that this will act as a stable foundation for my professional experience. In the long run, I am hopeful that I will be a certified psychiatrist in the next four to five years.
