The present study explains the psychosocial and behavioral health amongst children whose fathers are incarcerated or fathers who demonstrate antisocial behaviors. This study was also conducted to help promote father involvement. Mothers may try and foster the father figure but a child may stiff be affected emotionally, especially if there are any family members evolved in filling that void for the child. Children like myself, often rebel and have difficulties coping with the absence of their fathers or the often revolving door done by some fathers (incarcerated fathers/ antisocial). I agree with some topics discussed in this article, which said that children often are less open to rebuilding relationships with absent fathers. This study is relevant to the course because it relates to social development and how parent involvement parallels with positive/ negative behaviors. This article does not explain step parents and foster dads and how a child’s behavior may still be impacted. I can incorporate this article in my final paper by observing the parent interactions at my agency and seeing how a child behaves if he has his/ her father present.
2. Danzig, A. P., Dyson, M. W., Olino, T. M., Laptook, R. S., & Klein, D. N. (2015). Positive parenting interacts with child temperament and negative parenting to predict children’s socially appropriate behavior. Journal Of Social And Clinical Psychology, 34(5), 411-435. doi:10.1521/jscp.2015.34.5.411
The theory of this article is that positive parenting may effect a child’s temperament, while negative parenting may have an effect on children socially, whether parents know it or not. Essentially, the parenting effects (i.e. negative or positive) correspond with a child’s disposition, starting mainly at early school ages. According to these researchers, the act of knowing/ displaying appropriate behaviors socially, can later determine a child’s success and adaptability. This researcher’s found that parenting is definitely essential to a child’s social development. Also, parent behaviors (i.e. supportiveness, aggressive, stresses, emotional styles etc.) can later determine “positive” or “negative” parenting. This article is relevant to the course material because it relates to social development on children and its influences. This article is also similar to my personal beliefs of parents and how they influence their children unknowingly. For example, parents who do not tell their children they love them often or compliment them may impact a child negatively, where the child may grow to be less affectionate in friendships or intimate relationships. Also, a child that way not uplifted or complimented for anything they did growing up, may ultimately destroy the child’s self-esteem. One weakness that this article may have is that it doesn’t help explain those parents who demonstrated positive parenting ( ex: supportive and loving), and the children who do not demonstrate appropriate social behaviors and vice-versa. Lastly, I would definitely be able to incorporate this article into my final paper because it will help me distinguish between the socially inclined children at the agency, as well as those who are stand offish.

Friendship networks and psychological well-being from late adolescence to young adulthood: A gender-specific structural equation modeling approach. BMC Psychology, 4 doi:http://dx.doi.org/10.1186/s40359-016-0143-2
This article explored why supportive social relationships are essential for psychological well-being and how they grow between adolescence through early adulthood. This study sought to find if there were any differences among self reported friendships/ relationships and the psychological well-being amongst the different genders. The results showed how there were differences between male and female psychological well-beings. Females happened to actually decrease in network quality (friendships/ social relationships) from ages 19-23. The results of this article confirmed what I already knew which is how it supports my own view. Females are usually more emotional than men, which explains why their social relationships decrease. This study is relevant to the course because it help’s explain how social development is on going throughout a person’s lifespan, but is usually brought out in the transition of adolescence to early adulthood. This article’s strength is the gender portion of it, it helps explain that there is an actual difference among the two and their supportive social relationships. I’d include this article in my final paper because it contributes to both cognitive and social development.
4. Wang, Y., & Dix, T. (2016). Mothers’ Depressive Symptoms and Children’s Externalizing Behavior: Children’s Negative Emotionality in the Development of Hostile Attributions. Journal Of Family Psychology, doi:10.1037/fam0000241
This study is about mothers who are suffering from depression or have depressive symptoms, and how it later can lead to their children’s behavioral issues. The basis for this study was that depression corresponds with stress, which supports their hypothesis, stating that these distressed mothers will negatively impact their child’s emotions and behaviors. The researchers found that children who are raised by distressed mothers, will ultimately have a hard time regulating their emotions and are at risk of internalizing the mother’s problems by the second grade. This study is similar to my own view because I do believe that children mirror their parents, and if they are constantly in stressful environments, then they will not know how to behave in non stressful environments. Children who are unable to relate their emotions and display negative behaviors unconsciously, are subject to a delay in social and cognitive development, making this study relevant to the course. This study does not include fathers and how they impact their child if distressed, as well as other guardians and care-givers. I would incorporate this study into my final paper by discussing some of the delays in development from a behavioral standpoint.
