Cultural competence influences nurses perception of disease manifestation and medication effects. For example, there are several medications that are more potent or less effective for different ethnicity (ACE inhibitors in Latinos and African Americans) as well as some cultures who have a greater predilection for certain disease processes (Jewish individuals are prone to genetic disease like Tay Sachs and Cystic Fibrosis).Is there a particular nationality of patients within your practice that you have gained cultural competence? What specific factors have you found to be important during your interactions?
